Metre Back drop

Metre backdrop set up & crop

Continuing with my 1 metre photo / graphic representations , i decided to strip the experiment to its bare bones, using just the studio set up. I marked equal 1 metre distances directly onto the photographic backdrop itself. Taking images at various distances and focal lengths, it opens up a whole host of questions around ‘technical accuracies’ including lens distortion and false perspective, but what interests me the most is what happens after cropping out the context. The creases in the material & wobbly tape lines become the only clues to the depth of the real space. With the picture above, it helps if you cover up the image on the left. For me the image is a ‘Graph Of Its Own Making’, one that explores the inherent falsities of photography.
