[...] A series of five wall-based pieces made with a surveyor from Ordnance Survey, made at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park during The Space for 10 Residency. They plot the furthest horizon line I could see at a 360 Degree turn, the smallest one being the size of my thumbprint and the largest being over a metre in length. All five maps are framed to the same size and positioned to correspond to their coordinates on the original map; the emptiness in one frame refers to what is in view in another. You can read more about the development of this work in the YSP process/blog. [...]

[...] Spurn is a long thin curved spit of land measuring 5.5km long and at points only 20 metres wide. For me its most prominent features are the telegraph poles, like the spine of Spurn it carries electricity down to the point to support the Lifeboat station and Humber Pilots. Each pole has a number, which also has GPS point of reference to help identify points in the land. I like the fact they are ready made markers, subdividing the length of Spurn into units of quantifiable distances. This refers back to mapping in the landscape during the YSP residency, see blog date 05/04/08 [...]
