Past Signal, is both a performance and installation work, exploring our understanding of distance, speed and time, by playing around with the different properties and speeds of light and sound. Filmed in Suomenlinna Helsinki for the Äänen Lumo Festival, exhibited in Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art.

Drawing from its military island setting the work looks into how our communication and transportation systems have changed over the last few centuries. I’m interested in what it means to make sound and what it means to be heard, what is the signal to noise ratio? The far away figure jumps up and down wearing specially built metal shoes, because of the distance between the figure and camera / microphone the sound arrives after the jumper has landed.
