About Me and My Work

My Work

Humber Megaphone

I’m interested in how an individuals understanding of the physical world is shaped by the limitations of the body they inhabit. And how that understanding alters with the use of communication & recording technologies and  transportation. I often use the land to experiment with our perceptions of distance, speed & time and explore ideas around mapping, human scale and memory. I like the oddities and contradictions that arise when we try to mediate, order and measure the world using tools, instruments & guides. The work explores the cultures, languages and rules that are synonymous with these tools of mediation in order to play with their conventions. The technology not only documents the enquiry but also becomes part of the work.

The work has so far manifested as recorded sound and video, performance, installations, sculptures and wall based works and has been displayed in galleries, performed in festivals, projected in cinemas and found in the landscape. It touches on the relationships between the scientific and artistic approaches to making sense of the world. Ultimately questioning ideas around representation and the notion of ‘truth’.
